The Kings will be without forward Viktor Arvidsson for longer than expected. It was announced Saturday that the Swede needs surgery.

From an adjustment to out month-to-month, general manager Rob Blake announced on the Los Angeles Kings' pregame show that Viktor Arvidsson requires back surgery.

There is no official timeline given outside of the month-to-month designation, but it's fair to say Arvidsson will be out for a while.

While this is a tough situation for the Kings, it does free up the money for them to carry a full roster for a while. It also means forward Alex Laferriere will likely stay up with the team for a while.

The Kings will need a big return from Arthur Kaliyev, as losing Arvidsson is a big hit for them offensively.

There are a few options to replace Arvidsson in the lineup. The easiest being moving Laferriere to that line after Kaliyev returns. However, there is also the option of keeping Carl Grundstrom on the Phil Danault line and working things out from there.

Given Todd McLellan's comments about banging on desks to keep Laferriere up, I'm going to assume that Laferriere slots into Arvidsson's spot.

The adversity starts early for the Kings and it will be interesting to see how they respond here.
