The Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers played Game 2 of their first-round series last night. With the Oilers up 1-0 in the series, they looked to take a controlling lead in the series.
The Kings were looking to tie it up before it shifts back to Los Angeles for Game 3. The game was tied at 4-4 and headed into overtime before the captain, Anze Kopitar, scored the OT winner and tied the series at 1-1.
There were a few highlights in Game 2; however, the one that caught the attention of hockey fans around the NHL was Quinton Byfield's hit on the Oilers' captain, Connor McDavid.
This hit has been talked about because many people felt that it was a late hit. However, this could be the playoff hockey standard; this is the type of hit that brings energy to your team and the crowd.
The Kings were able to come out on top and beat the Oilers to tie the series at one game apiece. Now it shifts back to LA, where the Kings will need more of this style of effort from Byfield to keep the fans engaged.
There is also something to be said about this style of play in a playoff series. Although it may not be an earth-shattering hit, it does take a piece out of the Oilers' star player. This hit was a perfect example of playoff hockey by the Kings' youngster, Byfield.
