LA Kings' winger Adrian Kempe has been selected to play for his native Sweden at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina. Kempe joins countrymen William Nylander (Toronto), Victor Hedman (Tampa Bay), Ramus Dahlin (Buffalo), Lucas Raymond (Detroit), and Gabriel Landeskog (Colorado) as the first six selections for the Tre Kronor.
Kempe, who co-led the Kings with 35 goals in the 2024-25 season with Kevin Fiala, last represented Sweden at the Four Nations Tournament in February, scoring one goal and finishing with a -2 rating in three games played.
Although Kempe did not participate, Team Sweden won the bronze medal at the 2025 IIHF World Championship in Denmark and Sweden, beating co-host Denmark 6-2. The Swedes will be looking for their first gold medal since winning it all at the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics.
Not one to be outdone, Kevin Fiala was selected among the first six players to represent Switzerland at the 2026 Olympics, joining Roman Josi (Nashville), Timo Meier (New Jersey), Nico Hischier (New Jersey), Nino Niederreiter (Winnipeg), and Jonas Siegenthaler (New Jersey).
In his most recent international experience with Team Switzerland, Fiala had a monster tournament at the 2025 World Championship, notching four goals and eight assists in ten games played. Fiala's strong play was a key factor in Team Switzerland making it to the gold medal game where they would eventually lose to the USA 1-0 in overtime. The Swiss have never won Olympic gold but took home silver in the 1928 and 1948 Olympics.
