The Los Angeles Kings have a lot on their plate this summer. They need to improve their roster while managing their tight cap situation.
Especially after losing to the Edmonton Oilers for the third straight season, they will need to look for their best bargain deals on the free agent market.
Matt Roy and Viktor Arvidsson are likely not being brought back so they can create more cap space for their newest additions. Tyler Toffoli could be signed with the addition that they sign for cheap but provide a much larger impact.
Imagine if the Kings brought back Tyler Toffoli.2
It could help this off-season; he is a pending UFA who has expressed interest in testing the market. If the Kings can push the reunion and express their want for him to come home to LA, it may make him all the more interested.
Toffoli can score 50–60 points even at the age of 32. He is a goal scorer, and goals are at a premium in the NHL. He could be the winger on the line with Phillip Danault and Trevor Moore, but he could also be paired with Pierre-Luc Dubois to help him produce more offensively.
In terms of a contract, he can likely command $4.5–$5 million on a two-year deal. However, if GM Rob Blake can work out the reunion aspect, he may be willing to take less to come back to LA. If I were Blake, I'd offer a one-year deal with an AAV of $3.5 million. That way, if the team is looking to be out of the playoffs, they can opt to trade him to a contending team.
