The Los Angeles Kings have announced the signing of RFA forward Quintin Byfield to a five-year contract extension. The deal carries an AAV of $6.25 million.
The deal was announced just moments ago by all the top NHL insiders. It looks like Byfield went in the same direction as Auston Matthews with the short-term contract.
Byfield, 21, will be turning 27 when this five-year deal ends. With it being a shorter-term deal, the AAV is in the $6 million range, which is nice tidy work by GM Rob Blake.
Last season, the Newmarket, Ontario native had 20 goals and 35 assists for 55 points, which was a career-high.
The expectation for him this season is to continue playing at the same pace he was last season. This will be easier since the organization traded Pierre-Luc Dubois and opens up more playing time for Byfield.
The Kings only have two more RFAs remaining, Jordan Spence and Arthur Kaliyev. The hope would be to sign Spence to an extension and find a trade partner for Kailyev.
