It was widely known that the Los Angeles Kings were likely to let both Matt Roy and Viktor Arvidsson walk to free agency. Today, that was confirmed, with both players signing elsewhere.
First, Roy has agreed to terms with the Washington Capitals just moments after they pulled up a huge trade with the Ottawa Senators to acquire Jakob Chychrun.
Roy's contract is a seven-year deal with an AAV of $5.5 million per season. He and Chychrun will likely be a pairing together, which will provide the team with defensive depth.
As for Arvidsson, it was reported that the Edmonton Oilers were targeting him when the market opened, and that is what happened. The Oilers are coming off a Stanley Cup finals loss to the Florida Panthers.
They were looking for more offensive depth scoring, and that is what they got with Arvidsson. He and Mattias Ekholm are very good friends, which could have been the reason behind him going north to Edmonton. The contract is a two-year deal with an AAV of $4 million.
