The Los Angeles Kings didn't land a big target on Monday but they did secure some quality depth in the signing of Warren Foegele.
Foegele isn't a superstar, but with 20 goals and 41 points last season he's a solid option for your third line who proved he can play a bigger role in the playoffs.
He's also a great fit for the Kings' system.
Affording to AllThreeZones tracking data, no one on the Edmonton Oilers created more rush chances than Foegele, a perfect match for the Kings' rush-heavy playstyle.
Off the rush he uses his high-end speed to put defenders on their heels and open up space for linemates.
Affording to the NHLs edge data, Foegele's top speed put him in the 86th percentile of the league and he put it to good use last season.
He's also a physical player, averaging over 100 hits per 82 games through his career.
Looking at fit, he could be a good option next to Phil Danault on the third line, adding speed to Danault's wing and complementing Danault's industrious playstyle.
He'd also be an interesting option next to someone like Quinton Byfield as a complementary forward.
His speed would work well off Byfield and he's shown an ability to finish chances in Edmonton.
I wouldn't expect huge goal scoring numbers, but if he can stay around the 20 goal mark that's a big boost for LA.
Foegele is an ideal middle-six forward in today's NHL.
He works hard, can fly and has enough skill to keep up with player higher in the lineup.
Foegele's also a player that can play anywhere in your lineup and find success.
The Kings' roster needs to finish taking shape, but Foegele is a solid depth addition that makes any team better.
Of course, if he's the team's top six addition they so desperately need, that's a problem.
If they utilize him correctly as a speedy Swiss Army knife type forward, they'll get excellent value out of his contract.
