Kings Announce Brand Evolution, 'Retire' Old Logo

Fans have been waiting in anticipation for the release of the Los Angeles Kings' new logo and it has finally arrived.

On Thursday the team announced their "brand evolution" which includes the retirement of their previous logo and the introduction of a new one.

It isn't a 100% original logo, with the team reimagining the logo they used from 1988-1998. The logo that is synonymous with Wayne Gretzky in LA.

Often referred to as the "Chevy" logo, the Kings are bringing back an old fan favorite with this logo.

The organization said that a combination of fan and player feedback led to this decision, with former players expressing an affinity to the logo and current players excited at the prospect of dawning it.

Some fans were hoping for a return to the purple and gold color scheme, but the team is sticking with black, silver and white, leaving purple and gold for special events.

“It’s an important part of our heritage and we’re not scared to use it,” said COO Kelly Cheeseman to LAKingsInsider. “We’re a black, silver and white team, but the [purple and gold] is a part of it and we can continue to use it maybe in specialty moments…this brand has the flexibility to adapt to that and use that.”

On the back of the Pierre-Luc Dubois trade, Kings fans have a lot to talk about and a lot to be excited about right now.

I wouldn't consider this a full new era, but the Kings are certainly shaking things up this summer both on and off the ice.
