The Los Angeles Kings now hold the longest active losing streak in the league after dropping their seventh straight game on Thursday, falling 3-2 to the Florida Panthers in overtime.

It was an all too familiar story in Thursday's loss as well, blowing a lead late, allowing the Panthers to tie the game with just 2:18 left.

In overtime, Sam Reinhart scored on the power play with just 0.7 seconds remaining, handing the Kings their eighth overtime or shootout loss.

Amongst the Kings' issues, losing games that go beyond regulation is becoming a glaring one.

Three-on-three overtime, and especially the shootout, are always a bit of a toss up, but the Kings have to find ways to squeeze out the extra point in those scenarios.

One big area where the Kings should look to make changes is in their personnel.

Quinton Byfield, with his size, speed and skill combination should feature far more in overtime and the Kings shouldn't be as reliant on Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty in three-on-three scenarios.

Despite claims that he would limit their ice time this season, Todd McLellan continues to ride his two vets for better or worse and in overtime he needs to not be so stubborn in his reliance on them.

Of course, the overtime struggles don't come down to just those two. Players like Kevin Fiala, Adrian Kempe, Pierre-Luc Dubois all see significant ice time in overtime and need to step up as well.

Giving Byfield a long look is step one though.

All of that being said, it's important not to lose sight of just how difficult a game this was for the Kings. The Panthers came into Thursday's matchup on an eighth-game win streak and are one of the hottest teams in hockey.

In isolation, pushing Florida to the limit and escaping with a point isn't a bad result. Even looking at the last two games, leaving the state of Florida with two points from two games isn't a bad outcome.

Of course, hockey isn't played in a vacuum and you can't ignore the Kings blowing leads frequently and sitting on a seven-game losing streak, but it's not like they're getting blown out of the water right now.

The Kings have a chance to end the losing steak on Saturday in their rematch with the Detroit Red Wings.

Obviously, no game in January is a must-win game, but as this losing streak continues each game begins to feel like a must win one.

The Kings still aren't in panic territory yet, but as this losing streak gets closer to ten games, we get closer and closer to hitting the panic button.
