The Los Angeles Kings desperately needed a win in Game Two of their series against the Edmonton Oilers and they delivered with a 5-4 overtime victory.
In Game One, the Oilers' stars dominated the game and dominated the top of LA's lineup, in Game Two, the Kings flipped the script.
The Kings limited Connor McDavid to just one point and Leon Draisaitl to two. On the other side, Anze Kopitar had three points, including the game-winning goal, Adrian Kempe had two goals and Drew Doughty grabbed a goal as well.
That was the difference in Game Two, the Kings' stars were able to be the team's best players.
Kempe and Kopitar, in particular, took over this game.
The two were a combined plus six, and did it against Edmonton's top players. At 5-on-5, they spent the majority of their minutes against McDavid or Draisaitl.
Kempe now has four points and three goals, including a beautiful batted-in goal to give him the team lead in both points and goals.
That was after Kempe opened the scoring off a true goal scorers goal, snapping the puck off his stick in an instant to beat Stuart Skinner.
I've said it several times, Kempe was the best forward, and player, for the Kings this season and he proved that again on Wednesday.
Of course, Kopitar's three-point night can't be ignored either. Primary assists on both of Kempe's goals started the scoring and then he grabbed the game winner.
Calm as ever, Kopitar picked his spot and sent the Kings back home tied in the series.
I still have my concerns about the Kings' top-end talent against Edmonton, but they got it done in Game Two. Now it's about showing they can do it across a full series.
Some more help from the bottom six would be huge, instead of the bottom of their lineup all posting a negative plus-minus.
Kempe now has 18 points in 15 playoff games against the Oilers, so you know he'll feast, and Kopitar's 80 points in 94 career playoff games is a good sign offensively.
But keeping Edmonton's two-headed monster at bay three more times will be a tall task.
If Kopitar, Kempe and Doughty can replicate Wednesday's game, the Kings have a good chance of pulling off a Round One upset.
We'll have to wait until Friday to see if they can replicate the performance though.
