The Los Angeles Kings have done most of their work this summer already, but they could certainly use another top-six winger before next season.
Maybe a young player on the roster takes a big step and is that top-six winger, but that's far from guaranteed.
The Kings could look to take a risk on a different young player, one outside of the organization who needs a change of scenery.
The New York Rangers have reportedly been 'dangling' young forward Kaapo Kakko in trade rumours but have been disappointed in the potential return.
The Rangers signed Kakko to a one-year deal worth $2.4 million earlier in the summer but are open to moving on from the former second-overall pick.
He hasn't developed into the top six power-forward he was drafted to be yet, but there are some exciting underlying numbers there and the Kings swing on his upside.
Kakko being a left-shot is a drawback, but he's still worth a look for Rob Blake.
He's already a very mature defensive player which fits into LA's philosophy and would immediately make him a favorite of Jim Hiller's.
There's also plenty of skill and we've seen flashes of Kakko being a top-six forward in the past.
Opportunities have been tough to come by in New York though. In LA, where there should be a top six roles available to him, Kakko could hit in a big way.
He would be a great potential fit with any of LA's projected line combinations.
Whether it's with Anze Kopitar and Adrian Kempe, Quinton Byfield and Kevin Fiala or Phil Danault and Trevor Moore, Kakko would work.
The cost is where it becomes difficult for the Kings. They don't have a ton of trade able assets and are a little cap strapped, although a lot of that depends on Quinton Byfield's next contract.
Arthur Kaliyev is an obvious name that comes to mind, but it doesn't appear there's much interest in him league wide.
An interesting name to kick around would be Alex Turcotte. Selected three picks after Kakko in 2019, a trade based around Turcotte night interest New York.
It never hurts to have a versatile, hard-working forward in your lineup, especially one with a minimal cap hit.
It would cost Turcotte-plus, but that might be a starting point for LA.
Getting Kakko and giving him an extend look in the top six could prove to be massive for the Kings and give them a piece they're missing up front.
