Tom Glavine was drafted into the MLB and NHL in the same week in 1984.

Tom Glavine—that name will resonate with most MLB fans. He was a World Series MVP, two-time Cy Young Award winner, and 10-time All-Star, and in 2014 he was inducted into Cooperstown, the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Glavine was a very talented multi-sport athlete; 40 years ago, he was drafted into the MLB by the Atlanta Braves, where he would eventually get his jersey retired.

Only a few days after being drafted into the MLB, his name was called in the NHL draft.

He was drafted in the fourth round of the 1984 NHL Draft by the Los Angeles Kings. A future Hall of Famer and Kings' legend, Luc Robitaille, was drafted five rounds later.

Ultimately, Glavine chose to play baseball and signed with the Braves. He would make his MLB debut in 1987, and the rest is history.

Glavin likely made the right decision because he had a very successful career. It just makes you wonder what would have happened if he had decided to play in the NHL instead; would he have been as dominant as he was in the MLB?
