After the Game Four loss by the Los Angeles Kings against the Edmonton Oilers, a video surfaced from the game. The video showed the encounter between the referee, Evander Kane, and Drew Doughty, talking about a potential missed call on Kane.
In the video, some choices of words may not be safe for work, but it was an interesting watch.
There are two reasons why this video caught my attention. Firstly, it shows the fans exactly what happens when players and referees huddle to discuss penalties, missed calls, or what they talk about during the TV timeout.
Secondly, the most important takeaway from this video would have to be the fact that Kane was talking about being slew foot by a Kings player. It was Doughty who stepped up, defended his team, and pushed the blame back onto Kane when he called him out for doing the same thing.
This has happened for decades in all sports. However, when it comes to hockey, as soon as the playoffs start and the whistles go away, players tend to bark much more at the refs about missed calls.
This is exactly what this video shows: Kane felt that there was a missed call on him, and then the ref and Doughty told him why they felt he was wrong for that.
The Oilers and Kings now shift their attention to Game Five tonight and hope to stay alive and push this series to 3-2.
