Power move by LA!
The Los Angeles Kings entered the offseason wanting to make a splash and prior to the NHL Draft, they did just that. LA agreed on a sign-and-trade for Winnipeg Jets star center Pierre-Luc Dubois. Dubois and the Kings agreed to an eight-year, $8.5 million per year extension that will see him with the team for the foreseeable future
LA will be sending Alex Iafallo, Rasmus Kupari, Gabriel Vilardi, and Montreal Canadiens 2024 2nd round pick to the Jets in return. It’s quite the haul for Winnipeg but for a player like Dubois, it was going to cost the Kings a pretty penny.
Dubois had wanted out of Winnipeg and now gets his chance to join a Kings team that is looking to make some real noise in the Western Conference next season. He scored 27 goals and had 36 assists for the Jets last season and will be bringing some real firepower to the city of angels.
Kings General Manager Rob Blake wanted to make this a big offseason for the franchise and now he has lived up to that. Inking a player on the level of Dubois gives the Kings a true star center to add to this already strong roster.
Los Angeles made the postseason for the second consecutive year last season but were unable to get by the Edmonton Oilers again and were bounced in the first round of the playoffs. This is the type of power move that the Kings hope will allow them to move past the first round and beyond. LA hasn’t won a playoff series since they clinched the Stanley Cup back in 2014 so it’s been a long time coming.
