A great value get for LA!
The crucial summer of the Los Angeles Kings has started. First the team made an explosive move to trade for Pierre-Luc Dubois from the Winnipeg Jets before free agency opened and now they have their goaltender for next season. The team agreed to a one-year deal worth $1 million plus bonuses with veteran goalie Cam Talbot early Saturday.
Talbot joins the Kings after spending the second half of last season with the Ottawa Senators. He went 17-14-2 with a 2.93 goals against average and a .898 save percentage during his time in Ottawa.
The veteran battled some injuries last season and didn't show what he is capable of. The hope is that he can remain healthy for Los Angeles and bolster their goaltending situation that was a mess all of last year. It was seen as one of the biggest weaknesses for this Kings team and now they have a solid option to use.
Talbot will likely be used in a tandem but he can still flash the glove well when he is healthy. This is a great, low-risk signing for LA as they continue to put together a strong offseason.
General Manager Rob Blake knew that this summer was critical for the future of the franchise and at least so far, he has been killing it for them.
