After an impressive month of January, Brock Faber has been named the NHL's Rookie of the Month.
Brock Faber has been incredible all season for the Wild and has now been named the NHL's Rookie of the Month after his impressive month of January.
Faber, 21, started the season with one goal and eight points in 19 games but ever since the Wild made a coaching change from Dean Evason to John Hynes, the rookie defenseman has taken off.
This isn't to say Faber was being held back by Evason though. Maybe his offense has come from gaining more maturity by playing more games. Nonetheless, in 30 games under Hynes, Faber has three goals and 21 points.
In his last seven games for the Wild, Faber has two goals and nine points with five power-play points. The Minnesota native was never really a power play guy during his three seasons at the University of Minnesota, but Hynes has found something in the 21-year-old defender.
Faber led all rookies with 11 assists and 13 points in 14 games in the month of January which earned him Rookie of the Month honors. With Connor Bedard and now Adam Fantilli out with injuries, Faber could become this year's Rookie of the Year if he continues at this pace.
Regardless if Bedard and Fantilli are playing or not, you could make a case for Faber to win the Calder anyway. The 6-foot-1 defenseman has played the most minutes of any rookie in the NHL and leads the Wild in average time on ice as well.
