Mason Shaw, who is rehabbing from his fourth torn ACL, has signed a one-year, one-way AHL contract with the Iowa Wild, the team announced today.

The 24-year-old versatile forward scored seven goals and 17 points in 59 games last season with the Minnesota Wild before suffering a knee injury against the Vegas Golden Knights on April 1, which ended his 2022-23 campaign.

Shaw is currently with the Wild on their team bonding trip in Duluth and has been in Minnesota this summer rehabbing from his fourth ACL surgery. While it's an AHL deal with the Wild's affiliate, this contract doesn't rule out the possibility of Shaw returning to the big club this season or in the future.

Shaw proved to be an important piece on the Wild's fourth line last season. Not only did he bring the speed element and his ability to chip in offensively, but more importantly, he became one of the Wild's top defensive forwards. In fact, he finished as the third-most used forward on the penalty kill despite playing only 59 games, according to Natural Stat Trick.

Shaw scored his first NHL goal against the Chicago Blackhawks on Oct. 30, 2022.

And after the game, he said: "This will be one I won't forget for a while."

Shaw scored 39 goals and 114 points (both rank seventh all-time) for the Iowa Wild in 188 games across parts of six seasons from 2018 to 2022 after getting drafted by Minnesota in the fourth round of the 2017 NHL Draft at Pick No. 97. Shaw's seven game winning goals (fifth), 75 assists (sixth), 203 penalty minutes (sixth) and 396 shots (ninth) all rank top-10 in Iowa history.

Iowa named Shaw captain for the 2022-23 season, but he played only two games before he earned a permanent spot with the Wild. Shaw also played three games in Minnesota during the 2021-22 campaign.
