ST. PAUL, MINN. The Wild have announced they have reduced their training camp roster down to 40 players.

After yesterday's 4-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche, the Wild assigned David Spacek to the Iowa Wild. Spacek has shown in camp his size and defensive abilities and also showed last night his powerful shot.

"He's got an offensive side to him," Wild head coach Dean Evason said on Spacek before the Wild's third preseason game. "He's got a bite to him that is like his father. His father played with a lot of grit, and determination, and was physical. He's (David) got that in his game as well."

The Wild also assigned Simon Johansson, Kyle Masters, and Pavel Novak to the Iowa Wild and released Kale Kessy and Greg Meireles from their PTOs.

Kessy, 30, has played the last 11 years in between the AHL and ECHL with six different teams and is set to play for his seventh AHL team.

Last night he dropped the gloves with Avalanche defender Keaton Middleton, who is the younger brother of Wild defender, Jacob Middleton.

Although the roster is down to 40 players, the Wild are expected to reduce it even more before their team-bonding trip to Duluth on Sunday.
