This Wild youngster scored his first goal of the season.
Liam Ohgren has been getting a big chance recently to play some important minutes for the Minnesota Wild without Marcus Johansson and Kirill Kaprizov.
In six games since being recalled, Ohgren had two assists. In his seventh game since being recalled and 15th game of the season, Ohgren scored his first of the year and his second of his career.
On Tuesday I asked Wild General Manager and President of Hockey Operations Bill Guerin about what he has seen from Ohgren since he has been recalled.
"He’s been a little more consistent. I’d still like to see him play a little more free. He tends to be a little robotic at times, and he’s got too much skill for that," Guerin said. "So I’d like to see him use his speed a little bit more. Get better in scoring areas. But you know what, he’s responsible in the D-zone.
"He’s a responsible player at a young age, which we like. We always want them to score more but then we also want them to be responsible defensively so we’re kind of choosy and picky but I think overall he’s done well. I think there’s another level that he can get to."
Nonetheless, it was good to see Ohgren get on the scoresheet. He will be relied upon these next few weeks with the Wild's injuries so its good to see him take this step.
