The Montreal Canadiens prospect played an important role in Sunday's victory in the Memorial Cup final.
The Canadian Hockey League's (CHL) 2024 Memorial Cup wrapped up on Sunday with a battle between Ontario Hockey League (OHL) rivals London Knights and the hosting Saginaw Spirit. The Knights defeated the Spirit 4-2 during the round robin phase.
Canadiens prospect Owen Beck entered the championship game with three points in four games. He obtained all three points in two games against the Western Hockey League's (WHL) Moose Jaw Warriors.
The hosts opened the scoring midway through the first period when Beck won the draw and roofed the puck behind the opposition's goalie through traffic.
In the final minute of the frame, Josh Bloom set up the Canadiens prospect for a one-timer blast from the faceoff dot during a power play to double the Spirit's lead before the intermission.
Saginaw had a 3-0 lead when London answered back with a goal before the second intermission and added two more in the third to bring the teams back to square one. With 22 seconds remaining in regulation, Josh Bloom tapped in a loose puck to break tie and record his third point of the contest to give the Spirit 4-3 victory inside their arena.
The Canadiens prospect wrapped up his junior career with three shots on goal, and won 19 of 24 draws on Sunday. He was presented with the Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy, awarded to the most valuable player of the tournament.
In three seasons, he registered 198 points in 185 regular season games with the OHL's Mississauga Steelheads, Peterborough Petes, and Saginaw Spirit. He also collected 36 points in 49 playoff games and eight points in 10 Memorial Cup games.
He also represented Canada for the last two seasons at the IIHF World Junior Championships, where he totaled two points in eight games.
