The Montreal Canadiens prospect played two games over the weekend in the Memorial Cup for the Saginaw Spirit

The CHL's 2024 Memorial Cup kicked off on Friday with the Saginaw Spirit hosting the Moose Jaw Warriors, London Knights, and Drummondville Voltigeurs, each team champions of their respective league.

The Montreal Canadiens prospect Owen Beck is the organization's only representative. Beck obtained 30 points in 25 games for the Peterborough Petes before being traded to the Saginaw Spirit, where he totaled 51 points in 32 contests. He added 14 points in 17 playoff games for the Spirit.

Last season, the centre participated in the Memorial Cup with the Petes, and collected three points during the competition.

The hosts opened up the tournament on Friday by facing the WHL's Moose Jaw Warriors. The Spirit held 1-0 lead when Beck's pass attempt hit a defender's stick before finding its way in the back of the net to double the lead.

Early in the third period, Beck made a pass to Josh Bloom as he was hit in the slot. The Canucks prospect scored the eventual game winning goal in Saginaw's 5-4 victory. In addition to his two points, Beck took six shots on goal, and won 59 percent of his draws.

The Spirit were up against the QMJHL's Drummondville Voltigeurs on Sunday. The hosts cancelled a 2-0 and 3-2 deficit and went on to win 4-3. The victory automatically punches their ticket to the semifinal round. Beck finished the evening with five shots on goal and won 15 of his 25 draws.

Saginaw have two days off from competition before facing the London Knights on Wednesday at 7:30 pm. Eastern time. The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada.
