The Canadiens three-game winning streak came to an end as they were shutout by the Carolina Hurricanes. It was a very workmanlike performance for the Canes who are 11-0-1 in their last 12 games against Montreal. Carolina has not lost in regulation time to the Canadiens since the Sebastian Aho offer sheet.
Montreal managed to keep the visitors off the scoresheet at even strength but the Hurricanes opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal, added a power play goal and capped off the night with an empty-netter.
Juraj Slafkovsky was unable to earn any points on his 20th birthday putting an end to his nine-game point streak. Slafkovsky led the Habs with six shots on goal but finished the game with a minus-2 rating.
Kaiden Guhle was out of the lineup serving his one-game suspension. That opened a spot on defense for Johnathan Kovacevic.

Martin St. Louis
"We didn't take advantage of our chances in the second period. But in terms of our collective game, against this team, it's the best we've done since I've been here."
Juraj Slafkovsky
“We played a good match, we just didn’t score. I think we're going in the right direction, but games like that will happen. You can't win by not scoring. We missed so many chances."
The Canadiens will continue their five-game homestand on Tuesday night against the Florida Panthers.
