
Montreal Canadiens players continue to shine at IIHF World Championships in Czechia.
All four of Sunday games at the 2024 IIHF World Championships featured a representative of the Montreal Canadiens.
At Prague arena, Vinzenz Roher was held off the scoresheet in Austria's 4-1 victory over Norway. The 75th overall pick of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft took one shot on goal, plus-1, two penalty minutes in 11:52 of action. The center had a good day at the faceoff dot, winning five of six draws.
At Ostrava arena, Cole Caufield was blanked in the United States dominating 10-1 win against Kazakhstan. With 13:20 of ice time, the Canadiens forward took two shots on goal and had a minus-1 rating.
Canada trailed by one in the second period when they answered back with two power play goals that led to 3-2 victory against Switzerland in Prague arena. Kaiden Guhle took one shot on goal and had two penalty minutes with 19:42 of ice time.
Slovakia held a lead late in the third period when Latvia tied it with 1:20 remaining and force overtime. As the extra period did not determine a winner, the teams headed to shootout where eight rounds were needed for Latvia to come out with the 3-2 win.
Juraj Slafkovsky continued to produce offensively for his country. The forward was patient with the puck in the offensive zone before feeding Peter Cehlarik for the go-ahead goal.
The first overall pick of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft was given two opportunities during the shootout. He succeeded in his first attempt by sliding the puck between the pads and was stopped in his second attempt.
Slafkovsky was the most used forward of his team with 21:03, where he shot on goal six times and was a plus-1.
On Monday, Oliver Kapanen, the only Canadiens representative not in uniform on Sunday, hits the ice for Finland at 2:20 pm. Eastern when they square off against Denmark. The game will be broadcast on TSN 1 in Canada.
