The 2024 IIHF World Championships wrapped on Sunday at Prague arena with two contests to determine the countries that will step on the podium.
Following a shootout loss to Switzerland on Saturday, Canada faced Sweden in the bronze medal game. The Canadians trailed 1-0 through 20 minutes before answering back with consecutive goals by Dylan Cozens in the second and Pierre-Luc Dubois in the third period to get ahead.
Erik Karlsson and Carl Grundstrom lit the red light in a span of 4:07 for the Swedes and Marcuss Johansson added an empty net goal to seal the 4-2 win and the bronze medal around their necks.
"It was a little tough for us to get going. I think we played rock solid in the second period. We had a good start in the third, but I didn't like the way we reacted when we took the lead. We backed off a little bit instead of keep putting pressure, and keep getting on them which was our A-game. From there, we were not as good as we should have been," coach Andre Tourigny told TSN in a post-game interview.
Montreal Canadiens defenceman Kaiden Guhle was not dressed for the bronze medal match. TSN reported that the 22-year-old was injured during Saturday's semifinal from blocking a shot. In nine games, Guhle scored one goal, five points, two penalty minutes and plus-4 rating.
