Which players could the Canadiens look to extend next?
The Montreal Canadiens had an incredibly busy end to the off-season, as they extended multiple of their players.
Yet, when noting that the Canadiens have multiple players entering the final seasons of their contracts in 2026-27, it is certainly fair to wonder if they could look to extend more of their players before or during the season.
Due to this, let's look at three Canadiens contract extension candidates heading into the new season.
Josh Anderson
Anderson was recently named an alternate captain for the Canadiens. Could a contract extension be on the way next? The 32-year-old forward's leadership and hard-nosed style of play makes him a nice part of Montreal's roster. Due to this, it would make sense if the Habs looked to keep him around beyond this season.
Oliver Kapanen
Kapanen had a strong rookie season for Montreal in 2025-26, posting 22 goals and 37 points in 82 games. With this, it would not be too surprising if they worked hard to sign him to a contract extension soon. The 23-year-old forward has the potential to get better and is already a strong part of their group.
Alexandre Carrier
Carrier is another extension candidate to watch for the Canadiens. Since being acquired by Montreal from the Nashville Predators during the 2024-25 season, he has been a very good part of the Canadiens' blueline. Due to this, it would make sense if the Canadiens looked to keep him around on a contract extension.
