Patrik Laine's time with the Canadiens is likely coming to an end. Which teams could sign him in free agency?
The Montreal Canadiens' off-season is now here after their 6-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Final. Despite a tough finish to the playoffs, there is no question that the 2025-26 season was a very successful one for the Habs.
Yet, the Canadiens now have some decisions to make when it comes to their roster this off-season. They are entering the summer with multiple players on expired deals. This includes Patrik Laine.
When noting that Laine was limited to only five games this season and was already no longer a fit on Montreal's roster before his injury, it is likely that he won't be back in Montreal next season. Because of this, let's look at three teams that could take a chance on Laine this summer in free agency.
Los Angeles Kings
The Kings were connected to Laine during this season, so they could be a team to watch this summer when it comes to the 28-year-old forward. They need more skill on the wing, and Laine can provide plenty of that when healthy and playing at his best. On a one-year prove-it deal, he could be a nice fit on a Kings club that is looking to be better next season.
Tampa Bay Lightning
The Lightning could be a club to keep an eye on when it comes to Laine this off-season. They need to improve at the right wing position, and Laine could be a player that grabs their attention on a bargain deal. If Laine got healthy and bounced back, he could make some real magic on a line with Jake Guentzel and Brayden Point.
Seattle Kraken
The Kraken need to improve their offense this summer, as they scored the fifth-least goals in the NHL this year with 226. With this, the idea of them taking a chance on Laine should not be ruled out. The Kraken simply do not have enough offensive skill right now, and Laine could provide them with more of that if brought in.
