A team can never have too many centers. Remember, this player won’t be ready to try and make it in the NHL for 3-5 years and usually on the longer side of that. Some of the players you see today won’t be there when he’s ready. That’s the way the draft works for the most part.

Martin had 33 goals and 39 assists in 57 games. That’s a heck of a season for any player. In the playoffs, he had four points in five games. This season was a memorable one and then came the U18s.

Martin had three assists in the first game. That’s a heck of a way to remind NHL scouts that he’s a player to be reckoned with. Now, this pivot could get elevated before the Canadiens’ have a chance to pick. That’s something that can happen and it's too early to predict.

I like the fact that he can play on the power play and the penalty kill. He averages three hits per game. Showing he’s a two-way player, he gets 28% defensive zone starts according to InStat. Offensively, he has a smooth one timer, he’s not afraid to shoot and he can pick the corners as well. There’s a lot to like here.

Martin generates offense and plays a truculent game as well. That combination gives him the kind of tools that will translate at the next level. A lot of teams probably appreciate the way he plays the game.
