Now, the Canadiens have announced the pick for their second alternate captain.
The Canadiens shared on Monday morning that Josh Anderson will be their second alternate captain for the 2026-27 season. He will be wearing an 'A' with Mike Matheson, who has over each of the last three seasons.
Seeing the Canadiens pick Anderson as an alternate captain is not too difficult to understand. He has been with the Canadiens for a long time now and is one of their key veteran leaders. Thus, it makes sense that he has been given the 'A.'
Now, with Anderson being named an alternate captain, he is going to have more responsibility as a leader in the Canadiens' room. It is a big honor for the 12-year NHL veteran, and it will be intriguing to see what kind of season he has in 2026-27 because of it.
Anderson was acquired by the Canadiens during the 2020 NHL off-season from the Columbus Blue Jackets. Since then, he has appeared in 421 games with the Canadiens over six seasons, where he has posted 95 goals, 63 assists, 158 points, 429 penalty minutes, and 905 hits.
