The Montreal Canadiens had some troubling injury news this morning at practice.

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Mike Matheson only played a single period last night and didn't return. Understandably, the fans were worried as the veteran is an important piece of the defense corps and brings some maturity to a young blueline.

The number eight wasn't at practice this morning, as he was receiving treatment. However, the team has confirmed he will travel with the team to New York this afternoon. If he wasn't to play tomorrow, he probably wouldn't since this is a one game road trip.

However, Kaiden Guhle wasn't at practice and the organization issued a statement saying he is dealing with an upper body injury and will be evaluated daily. He won't make the trip to New York though, which is probably why Logan Mailloux was recalled from Laval.

Guhle's status wasn't the worst part of the day though as Juraj Slafkovsky seemed to be in serious discomfort after taking a routine shot, his shoulder appeared to bother him and he left the ice.

There has been no update about him, but it's worth noting that it was a shoulder injury that cut his rookie season short back in 2022-23.

At the post practice presser, Martin St-Louis confirmed that Slafkovsky would be making the trip to New York, but he stated he doesn't know if he'll play. When asked what lines would look like if he could play, the answer was once again "I don't know".

We'll update you as information becomes available...
