Canadiens Celebrate Halloween As Both A Team And Parents

Many of the young Montreal Canadiens are now parents, and that means Halloween took on a whole new meaning for them this time around. Curious as to who dressed up as what? Read on.

If there’s one holiday that’s made for kids, it’s Halloween. The premise of dressing up and walking around asking for candy is essentially a kids’ dream. That doesn’t mean adults can’t enjoy the day. In the last few years, we’ve seen great pictures of the Montreal Canadiens’ team party, but this year, social media also had a lot of baby snaps.

The young Habs are getting older, and after a wedding season a few years back, the team has experienced a baby boom lately, leading some players to see Halloween in a new light. Alexandre Carrier, Samuel Montembeault and Noah Dobson are three of the players who have welcomed new arrivals over the last year or so and, unsurprisingly, their better halves gathered with the kiddies to celebrate Halloween. Veronika, the Dobsons’ daughter, dressed up as a mustard bottle with mom disguised as a hot dog; Margot, the Montembeaults’ daughter, was costumed as Dumbo; and the Carriers’ daughter was the cutest pumpkin you’ll ever see.

On Saturday night, the team also posted snaps on social media of some players arriving in costume. The Xhekaj brothers weren't going to pass up the chance to live up to the unofficial nicknames; they showed up dressed as a sheriff and his deputy. Not everyone took part in the costumed arrival, though, but the picture of the team’s Halloween party did not disappoint.

Phillip Danault was dressed as the Big Bad Wolf while his wife was Little Red Riding Hood; Captain Nick Suzuki was Sesame Street’s Cookie Monster while his wife was a cookie; and the Mathesons made a very convincing pair of ostriches, once you knew that’s what they were. The Montembeaults were dressed as ringmasters, while the Dobsons personified Elvis and Priscilla Presley. Ivan Demidov and his girlfriend drew inspiration from the Minions movie, with the winger as Gru. Arber Xhekaj and his girlfriend went for Ozzy and Sharron Osbourne, while Lane Hutson and his girlfriend drew inspiration from The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Cole Caufield and his plus-one were pilots. The range of costumes was impressive, and some were just impossible to identify, like Grinch and Cindy Lou, for instance, but we’ll let you be the judge of that in the team picture below.
