Since being acquired from the Nashville Predators during the 2024-25 season, Alexandre Carrier has been a solid part of the Montreal Canadiens' blueline. He has provided them with stability to go along with a bit of offense from the point. 

Yet, now that Carrier is entering the final year of his contract, it is clear that the 2026-27 season is a very important one for the right-shot defenseman.

Carrier will be looking to prove to the Canadiens that they should keep him around beyond this season. If he puts together another solid all-around season, it would certainly help his chances of landing a contract extension with the Habs. 

In 73 games during this past season with the Canadiens, Carrier scored a career-high seven goals and recorded 22 points. He also had 155 blocks, which undoubtedly helped make him a valuable part of Montreal's blueline. Now, the eight-year NHL defenseman will be looking to continue to make an impact as he enters a contract year.

It will be interesting to see what kind of season Carrier can put together for the Canadiens in 2026-27 from here. He is certainly a player to watch closely next season.
