The Montreal Canadiens were humiliated at home last night, losing 8-2 to the Seattle Kraken. Various players made plenty of errors, but you cannot demote them all.
Looking at the defense pairings at practice this morning, it seemed obvious that change was coming. Kaiden Guhle and Justin Barron were not skating together as a pair of injured spares.
After practice, the team announced Logan Mailloux was being sent back down to the Rocket in the AHL. Considering he was skating with Arber Xhekaj this morning. During last night's debacle, it seems a logical deduction that if both Guhle and Barron are ready to go, Xhekaj could once again find himself on the outside looking in.
Speaking to the media earlier today, Martin St-Louis mentioned that his immature team was helping its opponent too much, so the demotion shouldn't come as a surprise. Furthermore, Guhle has proven to be a stable and calming influence on the defense corps in the past, and his return will make a big difference.
