Montreal Canadiens goaltender Jakub Dobes has been rewarded for his excellent month of March, winning the Molson Cup.
Montreal Canadiens netminder is the winner of the Molson Cup for the month of March. The rookie netminder has had a great month, winning seven of the last 10 games he played and establishing himself as the Habs’ number one netminder.
In six of those 10 games, he was named one of the three stars of the match; he was the first star three times, the second star twice, and the third star once. Throughout those 10 games, he kept a 2.21 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage, ranking first among all goaltenders who have played over 10 games in the month.
Dobes was also named first star of the week in the league for the period ending on March 29. It’s been a while since a Canadiens’ goaltender won the Molson Cup, quite a change after Carey Price won it so often over the course of his career.
As things stand, Dobes leads all rookie netminders in the league in wins with 26, five more than the second-place rookie netminder, Yaroslav Askarov. He now has more wins in his rookie season than great goaltenders in Canadiens history, such as Price or Patrick Roy.
His performance in the last month has made him the frontrunner to start the playoffs in net for the Canadiens. Unless he collapses before the end of the season, it’s hard to imagine how fellow rookie netminder Jacob Fowler could overtake him.
