Montreal Canadiens prospect Owen Beck is certainly an interesting prospect in the team's system. The 2022 second-round pick undoubtedly has good potential, and the hope is that he will become a nice piece of the Canadiens' future because of it.
Beck just completed his first full professional season in 2024-25, and it was a solid year for the 21-year-old center. He spent the majority of the campaign down in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Laval Rocket, where he posted 15 goals, 29 assists, 44 points, and a plus-10 rating. He also played in 13 playoff games for Laval, recording two goals and six points.
Beck's AHL play also led to him seeing some time on the Canadiens' roster in 2024-25. In 12 games with the Habs on the year, he recorded one assist, 23 hits, and a minus-2 rating.
Now that Beck has gotten a year of professional experience, it is going to be very fascinating to see if he can take a big step forward in his development in 2025-26. The 6-foot-1 showed in junior that he has the potential to become a solid offensive contributor, as he had 34 goals and 81 points in 57 games split between the Peterborough Petes and Saginaw Spirit in 2023-24.
Overall, there is no question that Beck has the potential to blossom into a solid full-time NHL player in the near future. It will be intriguing to see if he can cement himself a spot on the Canadiens' roster next season because of it from here.
