The University of Michigan may have lost in the Semifinals of the 2024 Frozen Four with Hobey Baker Award finalist Rutger McGroarty, one of the team's top players.
However, the 20-year-old is now with the Pittsburgh Penguins, leaving a spot open in the lineup, which Montreal Canadiens 2024 first-round pick Michael Hage has filled admirably.
Hage picked up two assists against Minnesota State University in the first game of the season on Friday. Despite setting up both goals, he was minus-3 in the 5-2 loss.
However, he redeemed himself on Saturday night in the second meeting with Minnesota, scoring his first NCCA goal and collecting another assist to reach four points through two games.
Thus far, Hage is producing at a 2.00 points-per-game average.
Last season, the Wolverines' top scorer was Gavin Brindley (a Columbus Blue Jackets prospect), who finished with 53 points in 40 games (a 1.32 points-per-game average).
Although Hage most likely won't keep up this pace (82 points) as the season progresses, he's started with a bang, meaning that the Canadiens have another elite prospect working their way to Montreal.
The Mississauga, ON native, spent the 2023-24 season with the Chicago Steel in the USHL, scoring 33 goals and 75 points in 54 games. The Canadiens drafted him with the 21st pick in the 2024 Draft.
