Could this Canadiens forward have a breakout year?

The Montreal Canadiens are going to be an interesting team to watch during this season. They have plenty of players who have the potential to improve in 2026-27.

One specific Canadiens breakout candidate who should not be ignored is forward Alex Newhook.

Newhook had a solid 2025-26 season with the Canadiens, as he posted 13 goals and 25 points in just 42 regular-season games played. This was after he had 15 goals and 26 points but in 82 games for Montreal in 2024-25.

Newhook also had a strong post-season, as he recorded seven goals and 10 points in 19 games. With this, it was an all-around good year for Newhook.

Due to this, it would not be surprising if Newhook ended up building on his momentum and is even better for Montreal this season. At only 25 years old, the former first-round pick still has the potential to improve.

With the Canadiens not bringing in a new top-six forward this off-season, it would be significant if Newhook can hit a new level for them next season. It will be interesting to see if he can do just that from here.
