Will this Canadiens goalie hit a new level?

Montreal Canadiens goalie Jakub Dobes was very good for the Original Six club this past season. But could he be even better this upcoming campaign for the Habs?

NHL.com recently ranked Dobes among the top 20 fantasy hockey breakout candidates for the 2026-27 season. When looking at what the 25-year-old goalie did last season, it is understandable.

Dobes had a strong 2025-26 season for Montreal, as he posted a 29-10-4 record, a .901 save percentage, and a 2.78 goals-against average. He was also a massive reason why the Canadiens made it to the Eastern Conference final this year, as he had a .908 save percentage and a 2.66 goals-against average in 19 playoff appearances.

When noting that this was Dobes' first full season at the NHL level, it is hard to bet against him improving even further for the Canadiens next season. If he can take another step forward in his game, it would be significant for a Habs club that is looking to be top contenders.

It will be interesting to see what kind of season Dobes can have in 2026-27 from here. He is undoubtedly one of the Canadiens' top X-factors for the upcoming campaign.
