Montreal Canadiens first-round pick and 21st overall at the 2024 draft, Michael Hage, is making a very good impression in the nascent stage of his NCAA career. He scored the second goal on a beautiful individual play against St. Cloud's in a 3-0 win last night.
The Canadiens' prospect has gathered three goals and three assists in four games. To put things into perspective, in his freshman year with Boston University, Lane Hutson put up 48 points in 39 games. As for Cole Caufield, in his rookie season with the Wisconsin Badgers, he scored 36 points in 36 games before ramping up his production to 52 points in 31 games.
It will be interesting to see if Hage decides to spend more than one year in the NCAA. Sometimes, players elect to make the jump to the pros after a single season, but to be honest, there's no rush. Slow and steady wins the race, as they say. Both Hutson and Caufield spent two years in the NCAA, and they were worth the wait.
Whenever Hage decides to make the jump or whenever the organization decides to tall him to make it, it looks like he will have been worth the wait, too. Even if it's still really early, he sure shows a lot of promise.
