Now that NHL free agency started roughly one month ago, we will soon see players sign professional tryout (PTO) agreements.

When looking at the Canadiens' current roster, it is fair to wonder if they could consider inviting a player to training camp on a PTO.

Due to this, let's look at two UFAs who the Canadiens should consider taking a chance on with a PTO. 

David Perron could be an interesting player for the Canadiens to take a look at with a PTO. The 38-year-old forward could be a nice veteran winger to bring in as a replacement for Brendan Gallagher if he earned a contract for the season. In 65 games last season split between the Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings, he posted 13 goals, 28 points, and 90 hits. He also has a Stanley Cup on his resume. 

Michael Bunting is another forward who the Canadiens would be wise to take a chance on with a PTO. The 30-year-old forward remains a UFA after he had 14 goals and 33 points in 74 points last season. Yet, when noting that he scored at least 19 goals from 2021-22 to 2024-25, he could be an intriguing bounce-back candidate for the Habs to bring in on a PTO.
