With the Canadiens needing another top-six forward, they should consider pursuing Jared McCann.

The Montreal Canadiens should be looking to boost their forward group this off-season. One of their biggest needs is another top-six forward.

When looking at potential trade targets around the NHL, Seattle Kraken forward Jared McCann stands out as an interesting option for the Canadiens to consider.

With the Kraken having another disappointing season in 2025-26, it is fair to wonder if they will shake up their roster a bit this summer. With McCann entering the final season of his contract in 2026-27, it would make sense if the Kraken listened to trade offers for him during this off-season.

If the Canadiens landed McCann, they would be bringing in a skilled forward who is capable of playing both center and on the wing. Due to this, he would be a solid player for the Canadiens to add to their top nine as they look to build off their very successful 2025-26 season. He would also give them another offensive weapon to work with on their power play if acquired.

In 52 games this season with the Kraken, McCann posted 20 goals and 40 points. He also recorded at least 61 points in his three previous seasons. This included him posting 40 goals and 70 points in 79 games with Seattle in 2022-23.

With numbers like these, it would make sense for the Canadiens to bring in McCann to improve their forward group. It will be interesting to see if they end up targeting him from here.
