According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, Montreal Canadiens defenseman Lane Hutson has been added to Team USA's Olympic preliminary roster.

In addition to Hutson, forward Brock Boeser and goaltender Thatcher Demko of the Vancouver Canucks have also been added to Team USA's Olympic preliminary roster.

Seeing Hutson be added to Team USA's Olympic preliminary roster is entirely understandable. The Canadiens defenseman just had an incredible rookie season for the Original Six club in 2024-25, as he scored six goals and recorded 60 assists and 66 points. This was good enough for him to take home the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL's rookie of the year.

Given the season Hutson just had for the Canadiens, it surprised many when Hutson was snubbed from Team USA's Olympic orientation camp back in August. Yet, he is now getting the chance to try to earn a spot on Team USA's Olympic roster.

Hutson's strong play this past season helped him land an eight-year, $70.8 million contract extension with the Canadiens earlier this week. Now with this latest news, things are only continuing to get better for the Holland, Michigan native.

In four games so far this season with the Canadiens, Hutson has recorded two assists and a plus-1 rating.
