Could the Canadiens make a run at this Blue Jackets forward if he hits the free agent market?
The Montreal Canadiens are being connected to one of the NHL's top pending unrestricted free agents (UFAs) with July 1 almost here.
According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, the Canadiens are among the teams interested in Columbus Blue Jackets pending UFA forward Mason Marchment.
"Yeah, Gino, my understanding is that Montreal and Toronto are potential fits for Mason Marchment. Both teams that have interest and [can] talk to him next Wednesday if he hits the market," LeBrun said.
With the Canadiens needing forward help, it is understandable that they have their eyes on Marchment. He is one of the top pending UFAs who can hit the market on July 1 and would be a nice pickup for the Canadiens' top nine if signed.
Marchment appeared in 68 games this past season split between the Seattle Kraken and Blue Jackets, where he had 19 goals, 26 assists, 47 points, 84 hits, and a plus-17 rating. With numbers like these, he would certainly if the Canadiens forward group a nice boost if brought in.
It will be interesting to see if the Canadiens will land Marchment. The Blue Jackets are still working hard to keep him in Columbus.
