Because of Quentin Miller's injury the Montreal Canadiens extended an invitation to rookie camp to goaltender Matteo Drobac.
Montreal Canadiens prospect Quentin Miller sustained a shoulder injury in a pre-season game between the Rimouski Oceanic and the Chicoutimi Saguenéens on Saturday night. As a result the Habs were going to find themselves short a goaltender for the Prospect Showdown against the Toronto Maple Leafs this weekend.
The Canadiens therefore extended an invitation to rookie camp to undrafted 21-year-old Matteo Drobac. He has played the last three full season in the OHL playing for the Hamilton Bulldogs (now Brantford Bulldog) with Canadiens prospect Florian Xhekaj.
Last season, he played 52 games last season posting a 28-14-7 records with a 3.27 goals-against average and a .892 save percentage. He will form the Canadiens' goaltending tandem for this weekend's pair of games along with Samuel Richard who is also attending camp on a tryout basis.
Richard spent the last season with the University of New Brunswick playing 16 games and winning them all with a 1.87 GAA and a .916 SP. Last season, he was signed to a professional tryout by the Toronto Maple Leafs in April, after the Ontario outfit found itself short of a goaltender following an injury to Ilya Samsonov. Richard acted as Joseph Woll's backup in a game against the New York Rangers but wasn't called into action.
The Canadiens rookie camp starts today with the youngsters undergoing physical testing. Tomorrow will hold the first on-ice session and the prospects will be playing two games this weekend at the Bell Centre.
