This Canadiens' off-season addition is having a good start to the season with Laval.
During the off-season, the Montreal Canadiens acquired forward Brett Berard from the New York Rangers in exchange for defenseman William Trudeau.
Trudeau's time with the Rangers is already over, as the former Canadiens prospect was claimed off waivers by the Nashville Predators before the season. Berard, on the other hand, is playing in the AHL with the Laval Rocket.
So far, Berard is having a solid start to the campaign with the Rocket.
In eight games this season with Laval, Berard has recorded four goals, three assists, seven points, and a plus-3 rating. This included him posting a goal and an assist in Laval's most recent game against the Hamilton Hammers in their most recent game.
Berard having this kind of the start to the season in the AHL is encouraging. If he keeps this kind of play up, perhaps it could open the door for him to receive a call-up to the Canadiens' NHL roster at some point this campaign.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if Berard can continue to make an impact for Laval. If he does, he should end up being an important part of the AHL club's roster this campaign.
