    Canadiens: Patrik Laine Avoids Surgery

Patrick Laine suffered a knee sprain which will not require surgery, much to everyone’s relief in Habsland.

After getting crushing news about David Reinbacher earlier today, Canadiens' fans can breathe a sigh of relief about Patrik Laine. The winger has suffered a left knee sprain and will not require surgery.

Seeing his knee bend after the Cedric Pare hit on Saturday night, everyone feared the worst. The most pessimistic believed his season was over; the optimistics…well, they were nowhere to be seen.

This is very welcome news for the organization, which will only need a short-term plan to cover the 2-3 months his absence should last. However, this may have interesting implications.

If the Canadiens elect to keep Oliver Kapanen on this side of the ocean, they won't want him to sit once Laine is back and ready to step back into the lineup. This could mean that Kent Hughes is trying to trade a veteran who will then be surplus to the requirement.

The Habs visibly chose to give the worst news first this morning when it was revealed Reinbacher had already gone under the knife and would be missing five to six months. Tonight’s announcement is good news.
