This Canadiens off-season signing is impressing with Laval.
During this off-season, the Montreal Canadiens signed defenseman Reilly Walsh to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2026-27 season.
The Canadiens signing Walsh to this contract came after he posted 16 goals and 46 points in 68 KHL games with Barys Astana during this past season.
Now, Walsh is off to a very good start to this season in the AHL with the Laval Rocket. In 14 games so far this campaign with Laval, the Framingham, Massachusetts native has posted five goals, 11 assists, 16 points, and a plus-7 rating.
With numbers like these, Walsh has been a very good offensive contributor for the Rocket early on. This is made apparent by Walsh being second on Laval in points behind fellow blueliner Luke Mittelstadt.
The hope was that Walsh would be a solid veteran on Laval's roster when the Canadiens signed him this off-season. He has certainly been that thus far this season, and it will now be intriguing to see if he can keep this kind of play up from here.
If Walsh continues to play well with the Rocket, perhaps it could even lead him to play at least one game for the Canadiens before the season is over.
