Austria took on Slovenia in a warm-up contest, and Habs prospects David Reinbacher and Vinzenz Rohrer led their team to a 2-1 victory.

After Slovenia opened the scoring, Reinbacher sought to tie up the game. He poked the puck away from a Slovenian defender along the Austrian blueline, and then the fifth overall draft selection in 2023 went the other way on an odd-man rush. The righty fired the puck glove-side, tying the game one-all.

Reinbacher is looking to play with Montreal this year, telling a reporter recently that he’d like to make the opening-day roster. He played 11 AHL games in 2023-24, amassing a 2-3-5 stat line.

Rohrer also got in on the action, with a tally that sealed the deal for Austria. With under seven minutes remaining in the second frame, the forward veered in on goal, receiving a pass from his linemate and plotting the puck top-shelf on the opposing goalie who had tucked himself into the butterfly position.

Rohrer was the 75th selection in 2022. He spent two years in the OHL, playing in 118 regular-season appearances with the Ottawa 67s, scoring 44 goals and notching 97 points. He spent last season in the Swiss National League with the ZSC Lions, playing in 49 games and amassing a 7-12-19 stat line.

Austria was ranked 16th in the overall Olympic table heading into qualification play.
