The Montreal Canadiens will honor the dynasty teams from the late 1970s against the New York Rangers at the Bell Centre tonight.
Fans attending tonight's Montreal Canadiens game against the New York Rangers at the Bell Centre will be treated to a special pre-game ceremony honoring the late 1970's dynasty teams.
The Canadiens won the Stanley Cup from 1976 to 1979, their last run of consecutive title wins dating back to the 1950s when they set the NHL record of five straight championships from 1956 to 1960.
What makes tonight's ceremony special is that it marks the 45th anniversary of the Canadiens defeating the Rangers in five games to capture the franchise's 22nd Stanley Cup title.
Although Montreal has yet to announce which former players will attend this evening, some of the dynasty's key players include Hockey Hall of Famers Ken Dryden, Bob Gainey, Larry Robinson, Serge Savard, Yvan Cournoyer, Jacques Lemaire, and Steve Shutt.
Unfortunately, one of the era's most distinguished players is no longer with us, as the Canadiens' all-time scoring Guy Lafleur passed away in 2022. However, it's a safe bet that he'll be honored tonight along with his former teammates.
