Canadiens Should Keep An Eye On Flames Top Trade Candidate

The Montreal Canadiens will be an interesting team to watch as this season rolls on.

The Canadiens are having a strong start to the season, as they have a 7-3-2 record and are third in the Atlantic Division standings. They have also won each of their last three games, so they are trending in the right direction.

With the Canadiens being an exciting team on the rise, it is likely that they will look to add to their roster this season. One of their biggest goals this campaign should be to strengthen their blueline.

Due to this, one player who Montreal should keep a close eye on during this season is Calgary Flames defenseman Zach Whitecloud.

Whitecloud has been a popular name in the rumor mill for a while now and would be an intriguing defenseman for the Canadiens to add to their roster. This is because the 29-year-old is a solid shutdown defenseman who could work well on their bottom pairing and their +++++penalty kill. Thus, he could be a strong pickup for a Canadiens team that could use more defensive depth on its right side.

Whitecloud's contract also adds to his appeal. This is because he has a bargain $2.75 million cap hit through the 2027-28 season. With this, he would be more than a rental for the Canadiens if brought in.

Nevertheless, with the Flames being in a rebuild, the Canadiens should consider kicking tires on Whitecloud. It will be interesting to see if they do just that from here.
