The Canadiens have made another notable move.
The Montreal Canadiens may have been quiet for the majority of this off-season, but they are now continuing to make big moves with training camp almost here.
The Canadiens announced on Tuesday evening that they have signed forward Alex Newhook to a four-year, $5.55 million average annual value (AAV) contract extension.
Newhook was entering the 2026-27 season in the final year of his contract. Yet, with this move, the Canadiens have now locked up the 25-year-old forward before the season even started.
Newhook landing this extension comes after he posted 13 goals, 12 assists, and 25 points in 42 games last season for Montreal. He also made an impact during the playoffs, posting seven goals and 10 points in 19 games.
Overall, with the season Newhook just had and the salary cap going up, this has the potential to be a very good deal for the Canadiens. This is especially so if the 2019 first-round pick ends up hitting a new level for Montreal.
In 179 games over three seasons with the Canadiens, Newhook has posted 43 goals, 42 assists, and 85 points. It will be interesting to see how he builds upon these stats after landing this nice contract extension from here.
